Who can enroll in Cobscook?

Any middle or high school student in Washington County can apply. Students in towns with their own high school must have pre-approval from their town’s superintendent.

What does a typical school day look like?

Sometimes Cobscook is traveling, sometimes students spend a whole day in the field or community working on a project. Other days are normal school days with a fairly regular schedule.

How do students get to Cobscook?

Most students are able to ride their local town bus or Washington Academy’s buses to get to our campus. Staff will discuss transportation options with each household as part of the enrollment process.

How much does it cost?

Cobscook is a public high school program so it’s free.

Can I play sports?

Cobscook is a program of Calais High School. Students enrolled at Cobscook may play sports through Calais, and need to provide their own transportation to practices.

Are there extracurricular opportunities?

Each year students get to decide which extracurricular activities they’d like offered. Students also have access to all community programs at Cobscook Institute.
