Fundraising and Communications Steward

Come join our community!

Come join our community! Cobscook Institute seeks candidates for a full-time, salaried, benefits-eligible position. The Fundraising and Communications Steward will support our efforts to share the story of our region and Cobscook Institute’s work and to bring our community members together with a common vision of a sustainable and healthy future. This position requires some evening and weekend hours, accommodated through a planned flexible schedule.

Cobscook Institute

Cobscook Institute, founded in 1999 as Cobscook Community Learning Center, was created by community members from around Cobscook Bay to find ways of improving life in the Washington County, Maine region. This work continues through formal and community education programs and initiatives and the efforts of many regional partnerships focused on the long-term well-being of our communities and the natural environment.

Position Description

This position will be responsible for supporting or coordinating the delivery of various forms of communication (newsletters, social media, email) as well as participating in many aspects of our work that directly relate to raising the funds necessary to continue our work. This includes storytelling through conversation and in writing, event planning, research, and some travel coordination.

This position works most closely with and is accountable to the Development Director and to our organization and community as a whole.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role will have energy and passion for Cobscook’s mission of building a healthy future for individuals, communities, and the interconnected whole in which we live. They will have a talent for bringing people together; for communicating complex or difficult ideas; and for understanding how to speak (and write) to diverse groups of people about important topics. They will appreciate the importance of being in relationship with all the people of our region to ensure the success of our mission. They will be graceful in giving and receiving feedback within a team environment, and be deeply collaborative, respectful, and bring a spirit of integrity and principle to everything they do.

While specific professional or educational experiences in Communications, Public Relations, or Fundraising/Development are valuable, they are less essential than the human qualities that will allow a person interested in serving the community in these ways to learn and make a contribution to positive community change. Regardless of prior experience, this position comes with an expectation of (and a budget for) ongoing professional development in the core functions as well as areas of future interest and growth.
