2006-2007 Field Trips

All field trips are customized to your group with special consideration to the learning outcomes you hope to achieve with any session.  Any of these fiend trips can be expanded to longer and more in-depth sessions.  Please call to discuss details.

Ceramics and Clay Creations

In this hands-on field trip, students will learn about the art and science of ceramics with CCLC potter Kevin Thompson.  This experience is designed to introduce participants to common hand building techniques through the creation of one or two hand-made pieces. In addition to learning about  clay and glazes, students will learn about the physical and chemical changes that take place during firing.  Students will also have the opportunity to watch a master potter demonstrate the use of a potter’s wheel.

A trip to the pottery studio can be designed as a one-time visit or as a multiple visit experience.  Students can return after their pieces have gone through the first firing to glaze them, participate in or observe the firing process, or focus on a specific method such as raku firing. If designed as a one-visit experience, fired pieces will be returned to your school for decoration in the classroom.
