Area home schoolers meet regularly at the CCLC for group activities that supplement their home education. Schedules and activities are collectively determined by participating families, and the CCLC supports their activities by providing space, some materials, and staff support around coordinating and offering activities. The Center also houses a range of home schooling resources in its library. If you are interested in finding about what the home schooling group has planned for this year, please contact our
program director, who can help link you with area home schooling parents.
Examples of activities the home schoolers group undertook last school year included:
- Raising and releasing Atlantic salmon with the assistance of Sheila Huckins, Dennys River Watershed Coordinator, through the Fish Friends Program.
- Exploring the Dennys River Watershed through field trips, water testing, and building a watershed model.
- Learning about medicinal Passamaquoddy plants with healers and teachers Fredda and Leslie Paul.
- Giving presentations to local lake associations and watershed groups.
