JOB DESCRIPTION
CCLC Passages Teacher/Coordinator
Overview
The Passages Program is a home-based, self-paced high school diploma program developed and run by the Community School (C-School) of Camden, Maine. The curriculum and delivery model of Passages was developed to meet needs specific to pregnant and parenting teens seeking an alternative program through which to achieve a high school diploma.
The Cobscook Community Learning Center has partnered with the Community School to expand the service region for Passages to include Washington, Northern Hancock and Southern Aroostook Counties. CCLC’s Passages Teacher/Coordinator holds the leadership position for this program expansion, working in concert with and under the supervision of the C-School’s Passages Program Director and CCLC’s Director of Education and Programs.
The first six months of this full-time position will be dedicated to establishing the program expansion, which includes recruiting and enrolling the first students. After that initial start up period, the work will be divided into halftime administrative duties (Passages Coordinator) and halftime teaching (Passages Teacher). Five students comprise a halftime workload within Passages. The individualized, home-base, self-paced nature of the program adds extensive travel to student homes to the list of teaching duties.
CCLC’s Passages staff works directly with the C-School’s Passages team and attends weekly staff meetings and professional development sessions, most frequently, via the video conferencing technology in place at both sites. The Teacher/Coordinator is responsible for understanding and orchestrating the CCLC’s Passages Program within the philosophies, practice, spirit and quality consistent with that established by the C-School. As additional teachers are added to the CCLC Passages staff, the CCLC Teacher/Coordinator will provide training, support, evaluation and supervision for them.
