TITLE: Director of Development and Communications

SUMMARY: The Director of Development and Communications will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising development and a communications plan, managing media relationships, and coordinating marketing efforts for the Cobscook Community Learning Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

~ Develop and implement the comprehensive fundraising strategy by cultivating relationships with potential funders, maintaining relationships with current funders, writing grant proposals and reports to funders, and coordinating and engaging staff, board and community members in fundraising efforts.
~ Develop and coordinate the communications plan and strategy to increase visibility and awareness of our work.
~ Design and lead the implementation of CCLC¡¦s marketing strategies.
~ Develop and support programs that assist with communications and media relations.
~ Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets.
~ Oversee the production of major publications, including newsletters, the annual report and other relevant printed and online reports.
~ Assist staff in the preparation of presentations, speeches and opinion pieces.
~ Serve as editor for all printed materials as quality control check prior to printing and distribution.
~ Enhance major revenue-producing opportunities through increased marketing activities for products and services.
~ Represent organization and its network in external events and activities as needed.
~ Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested with a sense of humor and team spirit.
~ Maintain all foundation and programmatic files and database records, updating them as needed and insuring that they accurately and clearly reflect all correspondence, information, guidelines, and research that will facilitate building strong and enduring relationships with foundation partners, including Boards of Directors, program officers, and donors, as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

~ College graduate with 3 or more year's experience preferably including communications, fundraising, media and external relations with at least 3 years in a management position.
~ Ability to build, maintain and manage long-term relationships with fundraising constituents.
~ Ability to work well in a small office which requires team work in planning and evaluation.
~ Ability to juggle multiple projects with limited support staff.
~ Excellent writing skills, including proofreading and editing abilities.
~ Strong communication and outreach skills with public speaking experience.
~ Experience with database management.
~ Strong research and analytical skills.
~ Knowledge of nonprofit infrastructure groups and data sources.
~ Interest and experience in the nonprofit sector.
~ Highly creative in developing approaches to reach target audiences.
~ Ability to travel to meet with in-state and regional funders as necessary.
~ Familiarity with and interest in community organizing, development and/or education preferential.
~ A commitment to the CCLC¡¦s mission, vision and values.
~ Must have excellent organizational and critical thinking skills.
~ Positive attitude and commitment to constructive communication and cooperation in a casual professional setting.
~ Required: Strong computer skills in MS Office such as PowerPoint, Word, Publisher and Access.

POSITION TYPE: Full time, permanent, salaried, with benefits.
