High School Credit Summer Courses Cobscook Community Learning Center Home

A $200 deposit is due prior to the start of the course (or scholarship forms must be filled out and approved), and fees must be paid in full by the end of the course in order for credit to be applied through the student’s school.  The CCLC can arrange payment plans with students and families.  Limited scholarship support is available on a first-come first-serve to those who qualify based on financial need.  Please call for details or visit:

Enrollment:  Slots are limited and available on a first come first serve basis.  A minimum of four students is required in order for a class to be offered.  Call the CCLC at 733-2233 to register.  Upon registration students will receive a confirmation letter including details for the course(s) s/he will be taking.


  • Summer High School English
    • Instructor: Janice Rice
    • When: 8:30 - 3:30 June 18 - 22 -- 6 1/2 hours a day and 2 - 6 - June 25 - June 27. (1/2 hour off for lunch).
    • Cost: $420 for an equivalent full year credit, includes materials.
    • Materials: Included
    • Registration Deadline: June 11
    • Description: Students will be reading and studying The Crucible by Arthur Miller, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut, and A & P by John Updike, with an emphasis on examining the political and social issues in each piece.  There will also be an emphasis on grammar skills and creative writing.

  • Summer High School Algebra 1&2
    • Instructor: Nicole Caricofe
    • When: Mondays – Fridays June 18 - 29
      Mon, Tue, Wed & Fri 8 am – 1:30 pm
      Thurs 8 am – 10:30 am
    • Cost: $420 for an equivalent full year credit, includes materials.
    • Materials: Included
    • Registration Deadline: One week prior to start date.
    • Description: This will be an intensive algebra course geared toward high school students. Through differentiated instruction, students will have the opportunity to earn either Algebra 1 or Algebra 2 credit.  Working from curriculum aligned to the Maine State Learning Results, students will explore a variety of topics in algebra.  Teaching methodology will range from lecture to cooperative learning lab activities.  Students should bring a three ring binder and a scientific calculator with them to class.

  • Summer High School Biology
    • Instructor: Michelle Reynolds
    • When: TBA
    • Cost: $420
    • Materials: Included
    • Registration Deadline: One week prior to start date.
    • Description: This course will focus on the concepts of cycles of nature, energy, cells, cellular organization, ecosystems, classification of organisms and diversity. The majority of this course will be spent working in a hands-on lab setting, which will make use of the vast natural resources surrounding the CCLC. Labs will include activities such as microscopic surveys, collection and analysis of organisms (both plants and animals), plant and animal identification, intra and interspecific relationships between organisms and the scientific method. Students will be assessed on their science journal, three formal lab write-ups, daily quizzes and a final on the last day of class. Students should expect to make connections between the natural world, science and practical, everyday application to their lives. The goal is to have fun while learning the concepts of science.
