Cobscook Community Learning Center
Pottery Lesson Policies and Contract

We are excited that you are taking pottery lessons through the CCLC!  Please make note of the following policies and procedures, sign and return this contract.   Please print and keep a copy for your records.

Note:  Lessons will not begin until a signed copy of this form with payment for the first month of lessons and /or scholarship forms are received.

Lesson Scheduling

Pottery lessons will be offered at the CCLC Monday through Friday. Schedule is flexible. Half hour and hour slots are available.  Students have the option of scheduling lessons weekly or bi-monthly.  Since lessons are scheduled back-to-back, you will get the most out of your lesson if you are ready to start at your designated time.

Payment Terms

Costs for lessons are $15 for a half-hour lesson and $25 for an hour lesson.  A deposit of one month’s lesson fee is due at contract signing ($60 for half hour lessons or $100 for hour lessons). Lesson contracts will be on a month to month term. In the first week of the month, payment is due for the upcoming 4 lessons. If a large monthly payment is not manageable, please speak with the CCLC staff to arrange alternate terms.

Students Receiving Scholarships

The CCLC is dedicated to making its courses and activities available to all.  We do have scholarships available based on financial need.  Please contact CCLC staff or go to the CCLC’s website to download a form.  If requesting a scholarship, please consider whether you need a full or partial scholarship.  All contributions towards lessons allow the CCLC scholarship funds to be extended further and to increase the number of people who can access CCLC courses and programs through it.  Each $1, $5, $10, and larger contribution per lesson makes a difference.

We cannot use scholarship costs to cover missed lessons.  Students receiving a scholarship will be asked to pay an advance deposit equal to one lesson ($15 if you are signed up for half hour lessons or $25 if you are signed up for hour lessons).  In the event that you miss a lesson without notification at least 24 hours prior to your lesson, your deposit will go to pay for your missed lesson.  If the deposit is needed to cover a missed lesson, it will need to be replenished in order for lessons to resume.  At such time that you choose to discontinue your lessons, your remaining deposit is fully refundable.

Missed Lessons

Since the CCLC contracts with instructors to give private lessons, absences without prior notification cannot be supported. A notice of at least 24 hours is required to avoid loosing the deposit to cover the costs of the lesson. If there is a conflict (i.e. doctor appointment) that is known about ahead-of-time, please let the instructor know at least a week before the lesson you will miss. Missed lessons without a phone call 24 hours prior will be paid for with the deposit to cover the costs of the lesson. Frequent cancellations may indicate a problem that should be discussed with the instructor.

If the instructor needs to reschedule for any reason, the lesson will be made up and no deposit will be forfeited. If there is any weather (snow, ice storm, etc.) which could produce dangerous conditions, we will contact you for rescheduling a lesson. If you do not hear from the instructor and feel unsure about the weather, please call to discuss the situation.

Severe Weather Policy

The CCLC will generally follow school closing decisions.  If schools remain open, so are we.  If they close, we will too.  If the later happens, we will call you and you will be entitled to a make-up lesson at a later date.  In the event of snow or other stormy conditions, unless the schools are closed or you hear from your instructor or CCLC staff, lessons are ON.

Contact Information

CCLC staff will handle the initial scheduling and billing for pottery instructors.  Please call Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm and ask to speak with Kevin or Kara. Please use the answering machine or email (kev@thecclc.org or kara@thecclc.org) to leave messages. Calls/emails will be returned as soon as possible.  If you are emailing due to rescheduling please only email 24 hours in advance. If you don’t receive a call back, please call to ensure we received your message.

Practice

Becoming proficient at pottery takes dedication and practice.  To make the most of your lesson experience, please plan to make time for regular practice. The CCLC studio is open and available for you to practice Monday trough Friday. Your instructor can provide you with practice tips.

Lesson Termination Policy

When a student registers for lessons, we anticipate that this will be a long term relationship. However, if it is necessary to discontinue lessons, we request a four week notice be given to the instructor and the CCLC so that we can advertise the opening of a time slot.
