    • Kara’s musical journey started at an early age. She identifies the euphonium (a brass instrument related to the tuba) as her first (and until recently, primary) instrument and often wonders where her life would be now if she majored on the instrument in college instead of environmental studies. Music hKara and her dog Flurryas been a constant part of her life, and before coming to Maine she played euphonium and trombone with the West Michigan Concert Winds (a community symphonic band in her hometown). Never content to play just one instrument, Kara also performs on the highland bagpipes (a piper now of seven years), Celtic whistle and flute, bodhran (the Irish drum) and guitar (just enough to sing by!). Back in her home state, Kara played with the Glen Erin Pipes and Drums, the Muskegon Police Pipes and Drums, The Wild Geese (a Celtic trio), and the musicians at Fenian’s Irish Pub (where she learned to play the whistle from a group of fun-loving musicians). Here in Maine, Kara plays whistle and does a bit of singing and guitar playing with the Black Socks String Band.
