Cobscook Community Learning Center Home
  • Yoga CircleCarrie Calahan
    • Instructor: Carrie Calahan
    • When: Every Thursday at 5:30 pm
    • Registration Deadline: Registration is not necessary. Feel free to drop in.
    • Description: Simply show up at the CCLC’s Commons if you’d like to take part in these sessions, there is a suggested donation of $5 at the door.   Both teachers are Kripalu-certified and invite all levels of yoga students to join; instruction will be geared appropriately to suit each person, regardless of experience.

      Yoga classes will begin with an initial breathing and centering session, followed by warm-up stretches and easy movement before delving into a variety of postures, also called asanas.  Postures consist of seated, prone, standing, bending, inverted, and balancing positions.  Yoga helps to develop and maintain our bodies’ flexibility and range of motion, build strength, achieve balance, and assist with our ability to focus and concentrate.  Various breathing techniques will be taught to increase lung capacity and facilitate greater assimilation of oxygen within the body’s blood and tissues.  There will be a guided-imagery meditation and full body relaxation at the conclusion of each class.

  • Fitting in Fitness
    • Instructor: Samantha Williams, Personal Trainer
    • When: Wednesdays, 6-7 pm April 11- May 16
    • Registration Deadline: One week prior to start date.
    • Description:. 30-45 minutes a day for exercise can seem daunting.  Breaking it into 2-3 15 minute sessions can help fitness fit into daily life.  Demonstrations and instructions for several sessions.  Participants will learn to find their own most effective exercise routines. For ages 16 and over.
    • Cost: $5-$40 Course fees are based on a sliding scale, click here for more info.
    • Materials: Please bring an exercise mat, water bottle, and small towel.

  • BYOB (Body!)
    • Instructor: Samantha Williams, Personal Trainer
    • When: Wednesdays, 6-7pm, May 23 – June 27, 2012
    • Registration Deadline: One week prior to start date.
    • Description: No Gym Needed Take-Home Exercise program for ages 16+.  Discussion & demonstration of strength-building exercises that utilize body weight.  Participants will learn various exercises to strengthen & tone without needing gym access or equipment.  A journal recommended for participants to record exercises. Instructor:  Samantha Williams, ACE Certified Personal Trainer.
    • Cost: $5 - $55, drop-in fee: $10 - Course fees are based on a sliding scale, click here for more info.
    • Materials: Please bring an exercise mat, water bottle, and small towel.

  • Belly Dancing
    • Instructor: Kessie Smith-Marengo
    • When: Two six week sessions: Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30 pm, April 10 – May 15, 2012 or
      Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30 pm, May 22 – June 26, 2012
    • Registration Deadline: One week prior to start date.
    • Description: Four weeks of exotic & FUN dance for exercise & health!  Get in shape and have a great time learning this ancient form of dance and self-expression.
    • Cost: $5 - $35 Course fees are based on a sliding scale, click here for more info.
